Evaluation of Stopmotion Animation

My 3D animation is a model animation. Model animation is when you take objects or plasticine figures and make them look like they are moving.

Coming up with ideas for my animation was, in my opinion, the hardest part of the task. I knew I wanted to do a model animation but I didn't know what to make it of. I finally decided on what my animation would be about when a friend of mine had mentioned the expression 'You Are What You Eat'. This lead me to thinking of someone becoming a burger or chips, this then lead me to thinking of making my model man turn into junk food for a healthy eating advert. Building the narrative was a lot simpler. My model animation was of a Plasticine Man that eats junk food then turns into said junk food. There is a voice over to this animation talking about the risks of heart disease since junk food increases the risk of having a heart attack. It finishes off with telling people that 'You Are What You Eat' so they should 'Eat Healthy'. My model animation consisted of using plasticine to create my person, furniture, food and the mutated food-man. Using plasticine was a good idea because it can mould into anything I needed it to and it was flexible enough to have my person move it's limbs. My animation was shot using a camera and the software iStopMotion.

I have mixed feelings on my model animation. I like the idea of my animation and I enjoyed making it. I like the idea of zooming into the plasticine mans face to see the movements of the man eating the junk food. What I dislike about my animation is the sound. The sound effects are too quite to be heard, the voice over's voice changes two different times and the music in the background doesn't really work.

For improving I would take into consideration the feedback and I would adjust the sound levels so that it doesn't sound like the voice has jumped octave. This would make the voice over smoother. I would also raise the sound levels of the sound effects so that they can be heard instead of being drowned out by the voice over.

Evaluation of 2D Animation

When I had finished my 2D animation of 'Dave Advert', I showed it to various people in my class. I asked them what they liked, disliked and how I could improve my animation.

The majority of the people I had shown my animation to had enjoyed it very much.

'I thought it was a good animation overall, I really liked it.'
Since the majority of people enjoyed my animation, I had decided that I had succeeded in creating a 2D animation for my Dave advert that people can enjoy.

I had no idea what I would make for my 2D animation. I knew I wanted to make a cut-out animation because it was the one I most enjoyed doing. Since I was having trouble figuring out what my second animation would be I decided to ask a fellow peer for help. This lead to her helping me make a list of all my favourite things so it was easier to make my decision. I then decided to make a cut-out advert for my favourite channel 'Dave'. The channel, I think, wants to be the best channel, thus I was enthralled with the idea of having cut out pictures depicting shows to fight each other. Then finishing off with a voice over telling people that Dave are 'Fighting to be the Best'.

I enjoyed making my 2D animation. I most liked the idea as a whole. I like that I have made them 'fight' by hitting each other off. The music I think worked well as I used the rocky theme, since rocky is a fighting film. The sound effect I used when they hit each other is a punching sound. I disliked the fact that with the pictures I used, you wouldn't understand half of them unless you had seen the programme and it wasn't that smooth. This was further emphasised when I had a comment saying the same.
'I would have made it a bit more shorter, bit more snappier.'

Even with these improvements needed, my animation was still enjoyed.
'I really liked how it fir the specifications of the usual advertising for Dave's Channel.'
'The sound effects went with the advert to advertise Dave, I thought it was a very good advert.'
